Edwin M. ‘Jim’ Lookabaugh was born in Watonga, Oklahoma and led the Jet High School football team to three straight undefeated seasons and state co-championships in 1927 and 1928. Moving on to Oklahoma City’s Capitol Hill High School, he led the Chiefs to unofficial state championships in 1932, ’33, ’34 and ’37. His 1933 team defeated Chicago’s Harrison Tech, 55-12, to determine the best high school team in the nation. He became the head football coach at Oklahoma State University ( Oklahoma A&M) from 1939-1949, leading the team to bowl championships in the 1945 Cotton Bowl, 1946 Sugar Bowl and 1948 Delta Bowl. His 1945 team is the only undefeated team in school history.
