Orville James ‘Sarge’ Moody, a native of Chickasha, Oklahoma, spent 14 years in the Army, heading up maintenance supervision and instruction at all Army golf courses. He gave up his military career for the PGA Tour in 1967. Fifteen months after joining the pro tour, he won the U.S. Open title at the Champions Golf Club in Houston, and he won over $300,000 during his first year on tour. He joined the Seniors Tour in 1984, and in 1989, became just the fourth man to win both the U.S. Open and the U.S. Senior Open.
