Tom Churchill, born in Blair, Oklahoma, won ten letters in four sports while at the University of Oklahoma, earning All-Conference and All-American honors in basketball and football. As a freshman, he won OU’s heavyweight and light heavyweight wrestling championships and the heavyweight boxing championship.  He won the decathlon at the 1928 Kansas relays and earned a place on the U.S. Olympic team, finishing fifth in the decathlon at the 1928 Olympics. Churchill played baseball his senior year at OU and earned a varsity letter as a pitcher. He briefly played professional baseball in the Yankees organization.
